Round trips

These are day trips designed to give around six-eight hours riding. Several shortcuts and extensions are given to manage the day depending on how the riding, weather, daylight, etc. turn out. In addition,  by mixing and matching various extensions and short cuts several more routes can be devised – not forgetting the possibility of making  even more rides by changing direction!

All of the round trips can be joined at any point, naturally, and interact with the long distance routes – the idea being to make a stop-over worthwhile distraction from a long haul trip – it’s great to leave those panniers behind at your temporary base and just go ride!

The Classic Catalonia ride serves as an example: as with my other routes

  • The main route is given in red. The idea being to fix a basic route within the ‘day trip’ timeframe.
  • Shortcuts and extensions in green. Note that Shortcuts can be equally good routes in their own right as well as contingencies.
  • Black roads are to be avoided if at all possible – and in this example you can see this is not always the case – in the roads on this route the main ‘threat’ is holiday traffic to and from the coastal cities, especially Barcelona, and Andorra with through traffic playing an equal part.
